hey anyone, i hope you're doing well..
i got a question for you..
how do you go about developing your melodies? and i don't mean the cadence necessarily.. i mean the actual melodies..
the up and down of the notes?
do you have any particular way that you go about doing this?
is their any technique? any mechanics? any inspiration?
anything at all that you could tell me would be of great help..
thanx

Re: Developing Melodies
Mon, June 25, 2007 - 3:48 PMThis, to me, is the most elusive part of learning songwriting. Honestly, I don't believe there is a method to develop a melody, but I do believe listening to original songs and playing with notes on a melodic instrument aimlessly will slowly enhance your ability to instinctively put something moving together.

Re: Developing Melodies
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 12:33 AMI do two things:
1) I started playing my bass tuned in 5th so most of my typical pattern broke down and I started hearing 'the other perfect note'.
2) I sing and hum and play what I hear-I think too muany people go for the obvious note-try changing the melody by rearranging the notes between cresendos as an alternative melody-just keep challenging yourself!
